With the regular season coming to a close, the top teams of the PSAC West are gearing up to take on the top teams from the PSAC East for the PSAC Championship.
Here’s how the West finished up the regular season:
Gannon – 18-8, 13-3
IUP – 23-3, 13-3
Mercyhurst – 15-11, 11-5
Slippery Rock – 19-9, 10-8
Seton Hill – 15-11, 7-9
Cal U – 11-15, 6-10
Pitt-Johnstown – 13-13, 6-10
Edinboro – 10-16, 3-13
Clarion – 5-20, 3-13
Statistically, here’s who led the West for the season:
Scoring: Bryan Theriot (Edinboro) 17.5 PPG
Rebounding: Malachi Leonard (Seton Hill) 8.9 RPG (led the PSAC)
Assists: Devante Chance (IUP) 4.5 SPG
With the PSAC Tournament coming up, here’s an outlook of the brackett:
1st Round: Saturday, March 1
West No. 4 Slippery Rock vs. West No. 5 Seton Hill – Winner to play West No. 1 Gannon
East No.3 Bloomsburg vs. East No. 6 Kutztown – Winner to play East No. 2 West Chester
East No. 3 Lock Haven vs. East No. 5 Millersville – Winner to play East No. 1 East Stroudsburg
West No. 3 Mercyhurst vs. West No. 6 Cal U – Winner to play West No. 2 IUP
The Quarterfinals will be held Tuesday, March 4.
In the second set of regional rankings for the NCAA Tournament, three PSAC West teams made the cut with five PSAC teams overall.
West Liberty still sits at number one, East Stroudsburg at two, IUP at three, Charleston at four, Shepherd at five, Gannon at six, West Chester at seven, Glenville State at eight, Fairmont State at nine and West Virginia Wesleyan at 10.
Again, the top eight make the tournament, which would put all three PSAC West teams in if the tournament started today. The PSAC Tournament, as well as the Mountain East Conference Tournament, will play a large role in determining the final regional rankings.
