In first round action of the PSAC Tournament Saturday, Mercyhurst and Slippery Rock each advanced to the quarterfinals.
Mercyhurst beat Cal U by a slim margin of 54-50. Jean Onana led the way for the Lakers, posting 19 points in the win. Anthony Lytle also had 16 points for Mercyhurst.
In another close game, Slippery Rock downed Seton Hill, 68-65. Maurice Lewis-Briggs scored 20 points and pulled down 13 rebounds for the double-double.
Mercyhurst will play No. 2 IUP and Slippery Rock will play No. 1 Gannon. Both games are slated for Tuesday.
Advancing in the East were Bloomsburg and Millersville. Bloomsburg will play No. 2 West Chester and Millersville will play No. 1 East Stroudsburg on Tuesday, also.
