Pirates LHP Tony Watson has been selected to his first All-Star game by NL manager Mike Matheny.
“I’m really proud to represent this team, represent the Pirates organization in the All-Star game,” said Watson. “It wasn’t something I was expecting, but I’m honored to even be in the conversation and now to know that I’m going feels tremendous.”
Watson currently posts a 5-0 record with a 0.89 ERA (4 ER) in 40 2/3 IP. He has struck out 49 batters while walking only 10. He went 26 appearance in between earned runs from April 24 – June 26.
“You just try to stay consistent,” said Watson. “Go out there, take care of your work, what you can control, and have fun. Attack the strike zone and let the defense work.”
Watson leads all Major League relievers with 22 holds while only blowing three saves — only two resulted in loss for the team.
