Andrew McCutchen, Tony Watson and Josh Harrison all contributed to the National League All-Star effort, but it wasn’t enough as the American League squad locked up home field advantage in the Word Series with a 5-3 victory on Tuesday evening.
McCutchen led the game off with an infield single. Derek Jeter — who participated in his final midsummer classic– made a diving stop at short, but his throw was late as McCutchen’s speed was too much. He then reached second on a wild pitch and stole third, but was stranded. It was his only hit of the game as the NL MVP went 1-for-3.
Josh Harrison entered the game in the sixth and went 0-for 2. He did see some action in left field with fellow Pirate Tony Watson on the mound. Watson only faced one batter — White Sox rookie sensation Jose Abreu — and got him to fly out to Harrison.
Angels center fielder Mike Trout was named All-Star MVP going 2-for-3 with two RBI and a run scored. His fifth inning 2-RBI double put the AL ahead for good.
Final Score: American League 5, National League 3.
