It’s been a tough past couple weeks for the Pirates and their fans, and that continued today with their seventh straight loss. James McDonald once again had a bad start pitching only 3.2 innings. He allowed four earned runs in his outing, and other than two starts against the St. Louis Cardinals this second half, has been awful. The team used seven other pitchers throughout the course of the game. Justin Wilson, Chris Leroux, Kyle McPherson, and Chad Qualls all had scoreless outings. Tony Watson allowed one run and Jared Hughes allowed two. Bryan Morris made his Major League debut, throwing a scoreless inning.
The Pirates offense didn’t get a hit off of Chris Rusin until the fifth inning, when Gaby Sanchez doubled. Sanchez also had a RBI single and Pedro Alvarez accounted for two RBIs. Andrew McCutchen hit an opposite field, solo home run, his 27th of the season in the late innings, but that was all the offense for the Pirates this afternoon.
Seven straight losses and the Pirates are now only one game over .500. Three more games remain against the Chicago Cubs this series, with 1:05 PM start.
