Black Monday has come and gone in the NFL. Seven teams will now be shopping for new head coaches and five will be looking for a new general manager.
To no one’s surprise, Andy Reid has been dumped in Philadelphia. Fans have been calling for his head for a few seasons now and they have finally gotten their wish. Reid was 130-93-1 with five NFC Championship appearances and a Super Bowl appearance. His final plea to save his job by bringing in players like Michael Vick, Nnamdi Asomugha, and Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie has failed and he will look for a job elsewhere in 2013.
The biggest surprise of the day might have come from Chicago when the Bears fired Lovie Smith after a 10-6 season. The Bears attribute this to his near expiring contract and the fact that the team’s new GM wants to head in a new direction.
One coach that people thought might get the boot was Rex Ryan but according to sources, he will stay put in New York. The same thing goes for Jason Garrett in Dallas and Mike Munchak in Jacksonville.
Other coaches and general managers who were let go on Monday:
- Chiefs – Romeo Crennel – 4-15
- Chargers – Norv Turner – 55-40, 3-3 in playoffs, AJ Smith (GM)
- Jaguars – Gene Smith (GM)
- Browns – Pat Shurmur,- 9,23, Tom Heckert (GM)
- Jets – Mike Tannenbaum (GM)
- Bills – Chan Gailey 16-32
- Cardinals – Ken Wisenhunt – 45-51, 4-2 playoffs, 1 Super Bowl, Rod Graves (GM)
Some other coaches and GMs who might be looking over the shoulder this offseason:
- Panthers – Ron Rivera – 13-19
- Lions – Jim Schartz – 22-42

This offseason coaching carousel should be an interesting one.
