Pitt welcomed the Duke Blue Devils to the Petersen Events Center for the first time ever Monday night. Judging by the success Duke had in the second half, they will gladly come back. Jamie Dixon’s team made things easy for the Blue Devils during the final 20 minutes as Duke turned a close game at the half into a route, outscoring the Panthers 46-33 in the second half, en route to an 80-65 victory. Duke (17-4, 6-2) shot 55 percent from the floor in the second half and 52 percent from ... Read More

Fleury turns aside the Buffalo Sabres
Despite being the top team in the Eastern Conference for most of this season, the Pittsburgh Penguins' biggest struggle has come against the league's worst. Fortunately, that didn't happen Monday night as the Penguins blanked the Buffalo Sabres 3-0. Pittsburgh came into the match up after losing their last game to the tenth place Dallas Stars on Saturday night. It was the fourth loss in five games against a team that was out of playoff contention. The Penguins dominated the first ... Read More
Pitt climbs two spots in latest polls
After a week in which Jamie Dixon's Pitt basketball team routed Clemson and beat Maryland on the road, the Panthers received a slight bump in the AP Poll, but at 18-2 still aren't getting the respect they likely deserve on the national scene. Pitt received a slight bump from No. 20 up to No. 18 in the latest AP Poll. The Panthers also jumped from No. 19 to No. 17 in the latest USA Today Coaches Poll. Undefeated teams Arizona and Syracuse remained in the top two spots in both polls for the ... Read More
Should Fleury get more time off?
Do you think the Penguins are burning out Marc-Andre Fleury? Do you think with the massive lead the Penguins hold in the Metro division, that they need to rely on the Flower so heavily? For the Penguins top net minder, Fleury has appeared in 42 games this season, which ranks him third in the league and he is on pace to play in 68 games. Unfortunately for the Penguins, this has been a downfall for Fleury in the recent past. There is simply no need for Dan Bylsma to be playing No. 29 on a ... Read More

Duquesne Shows Potential, Signs of Growth in Last Two Games

Although the Dukes only have one win to show for their stellar play, the team has shown us two important things. First and foremost, they are a resilient bunch. Ferry and his team came into the Saint Louis game expecting a win and nothing more, but they couldn’t pull it off in the final minute and ended up falling 76-72. But Duquesne ... Read More

Colter Hits Unlikely Buzzer Beater to Lift Duquesne Past St. Bonaventure
Pittsburgh – Duquesne (9-9, 2-4) won in the most dramatic fashion, 83-81, Saturday night at the A.J. Palumbo Center on a last second 3-point heave by Derrick Colter. The sophomore point guard’s runner with a hand in the face came after Colter missed two free throws with four seconds left in the game that would have put the Dukes up by one. “I should have made the free throws first, that just made me mad. I could have hit the two free throws to win the game,” Colter said afterwards. After his ... Read More
Lehtonen shuts out listless Pens 3-0
The Dallas Stars outplayed the Pittsburgh Penguins for the first two periods, then coasted in the third period for their third straight win. Sergei Gonchar, Jamie Benn and Rich Peverley all scored for the Stars and Kari Lehtonen stopped all 24 shots. The Pens outhit the Stars but that was the only notable stat that the Penguins led in. Former Penguin Sergei Gonchar scored a power play goal late in the first period to give the Stars a 1-0 lead. It was a trademark goal for Gonchar as he ... Read More
