Pirates GM Neal Huntington spoke about his thoughts on the Pirates first half of the season. The team started off slow going 10-18 in their first 28 games, but recovered to go 32-22 in the past 54 contests. Huntington attributes some of the success to the Pirate offense that leads all National League teams with a .350 on-base percentage, ranked second in batting average (.270) and fourth in runs scored (128). "Our offense for really the last seven weeks has been very productive and, ... Read More

Pirates Score Three in the Ninth to Beat Diamondbacks 3-2
Pittsburgh --Wade Miley and the Diamondbacks shut the Pirates down for eight innings, but the ninth was a different story as the Pirates scored three times for a 3-2 come-from-behind win on Tuesday night. The Pirates (43-40) knocked Miley out of the game in the ninth with a 2-0 lead when Neil Walker and Gregory Polanco singled to start the inning. Addison Reed then came in to try for the save, but failed. With one out, Starling Marte sent a 0-2 slider off of the top of the center field wall ... Read More
Pirates Gameday 7/1: Hurdle Discusses Locke’s Success, Pedro’s Inconsistency
Good afternoon from PNC Park where today the Pirates (42-40) begin a three-game set with the Arizona Diamondbacks (35-49). Jeff Locke (1-1, 3.74 ERA) will oppose Wade Miley (3-6, 4.78 ERA). Hurdle's Quotes On Locke's effectiveness as of late: "He's thrown more strikes. His command is in a better place than it was last last season. More leverage counts in his favor and that has been the biggest thing. You look at the walks-to-strikeout total base and compare it to anytime last year at any time. ... Read More
Penguins hit hard during opening day of free agency
As expected, the first day of free agency has turned into “Black Tuesday,” for the Pittsburgh Penguins as they suffered a big hit. It was unlikely that the Penguins would be able to sign any of their unrestricted free agents coming into Tuesday as they saw five players change addresses, headlined by longtime Penguins defenseman Brooks Orpik. Orpik signed a five-year, $27.5-million deal with the Washington Capitals after spending his entire professional career to date with the Pens. The ... Read More
Penguins sign Blake Comeau, Thomas Greiss
Shortly after Pittsburgh Penguins general manager Jim Rutherford made his first free agent splash of the offseason by inking defenseman Christian Ehrhoff, Rutherford added a couple more pieces on the open market. The new Penguins GM was able to sign forward Blake Comeau to a one-year, $700,000 deal and goaltender Thomas Greiss to a one-year, $1 million deal. The 28-year old Comeau has spent the last season and a half in Columbus where he tallied 21 points (7G, 14A) in 70 regular-season ... Read More
Penguins Ink Christian Ehrhoff to one-year deal
It didn’t take long for new Pittsburgh Penguins general manager Jim Rutherford to make his first free agent signing. But it wasn’t the forward that many expected it to be. Linked to several unrestricted free agent forwards on the market, the Penguins instead targeted another defenseman, inking veteran Christian Ehroff to a one-year deal that will pay the left-hand shooting blue liner $4 million next season. Ehrhoff, who is set to turn 32 on July 6, was set to enter the fourth season of ... Read More
Schedule could make Pitt Coastal Division favorites
As Paul Chryst and the Pitt Panthers football team prepare for their second season in the ACC, they may not be presented with a better opportunity to win the Coastal Division than they currently have. That’s because their conference schedule works out perfectly for a potential trip to the ACC Championship Game. Pitt misses both Clemson and Florida State this season, allowing for much more wiggle room for a loss to a Coastal Division opponent. In addition, their toughest stretch of their ... Read More
Penguins have work to do as free agency begins
There's certainly been plenty of questions, and a good bit of change when it comes to the Pittsburgh Penguins since they were eliminated by the New York Rangers in the second round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs. With the firing of Ray Shero and Dan Bylsma, the Penguins sent a message that change was needed. Now, new GM Jim Rutherford will be asked to reshape a roster that will very likely look quite different than it did a year ago. According to Ryan Wilson from Hockeybuzz.com, the Penguins ... Read More
