Ray Graham is officially back for the Pitt Panthers. After Pitt’s 47-17 rout of the Temple Owls at Heinz Field on Saturday, you got the impression for the first time this season that Graham's knee is completely healthy. He rushed for two touchdowns and caught another as the Panthers won their second consecutive game, winning their first Big East Conference game of the season in the process. The senior running back finished with 180 yards of total offense -- 109 rushing and 71 receiving ... Read More

PSAC East Title decided in game for the ages
This weekend in Shippensburg was expected to be nothing short of a shootout. Shippensburg leads the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference in scoring offense at 52 points per game with Bloomsburg third averaging 40 points per contest. This battle of unbeaten teams was set to be a showdown not only for the PSAC East Title, but one for the ages. The first half was literally half of what you would have expected. While Shippensburg’s offense seemed primed and ready, Bloomsburg quarterback Tim ... Read More
McCoy Sets Record; Duquesne Loses Heartbreaker to Monmouth
Duquesne Dukes running back Larry McCoy made history Saturday afternoon. With his 29 carry, 131 yard performance against Monmouth, McCoy passed Donte Small to become the all-time leading rusher in Duquesne history. McCoy took a third quarter carry for four yards and passed the 69 yards he needed coming into the game to eclipse the 4,260 yards Small racked up from 1998-2001. But McCoy actually had to break the record twice, losing four yards on his next carry. But he left no doubt when he ... Read More
Pittsburgh Power bring two key players back for 2013
The Pittsburgh Power have used the exclusive free agency period to sign two players to the 2013 roster from last year’s squad. Wide receiver Mike “The Joystick” Washington will return for his third season in the AFL, all for the Pittsburgh Power. The local Aliquippa native has been very consistent for the Power during his career, notching 114 receptions for 1,367 yards and 30 touchdowns in 2011 and 115 receptions for 1,484 yards and 34 touchdowns in 2012. He earned AFL Playmaker of the Week ... Read More
80 years later and still ugly
Every year, it seems NFL teams reveal new throwback jerseys. Some people like them, some hate them. I am a fan of them. They show the younger generation of fans what the players looked like when they played “back in the day.” The upcoming game for the Steelers is against the Washington Redskins. The Steelers will be wearing their 80-year anniversary jerseys. In 1933, the Pittsburgh Pirates (Steelers) joined the league after Pennsylvania relaxed its blue laws, allowing sports to be played on ... Read More
NHL lockout update
Well, this is depressing. The NHL has cancelled all games through the end of November (though they’ve avoided canceling the Winter Classic and the All-Star Game), and on top of that, have pulled their previous offer off the table, leaving the negotiations in a very tenuous spot. The NHLPA tried earlier this week to continue working on a new agreement, but were spurned by the NHL by saying “not sure what we would be meeting about.” While I’ve always maintained (and will continue to do so) that ... Outrage over Pirates’ Training Methods WAY Overblown
Warning: What you are about to read is different from what many others have written on this subject. If you are expecting this post to lay blame on twenty years of losing because of four days of training, or pander to the "I hate Bob Nutting just because its easy" crowd, please turn back now. There's a lot of things the Pirates have done wrong over the last two decades to get to where they are today. The combination of being a small market team, failing to draft the right players, and ... The Yinzer of the Week: Jonathan Dwyer
No Rashard Mendenhall, no Issac Redman? No problem for the Steelers as they defeated the Cincinnati Bengals at Paul Brown Stadium Sunday night in a crucial divisional game. While Ben Roethlisberger paced the Steeler offense, it was Jonathan Dwyer that stepped in and filled the void at running back. For his efforts in the gritty win, Dwyer has earned our Yinzer of the Week Award. Dwyer ran for 122 yards in the contest, which included 70 in the second half. While it was rookie Chris Rainey who ... Read More
Is Dwyer making a case to be starting running back
Back in 2008 when the Steelers drafted Rashard Mendenhall with the 23rd overall pick, they were surprised to see him there. Although his draft class included such running backs as Darren McFadden, Jonathan Stewart and Felix Jones, it was still surprising to see him fall as far as he did. Running back wasn’t necessarily a position of the need at the time with Willie Parker coming off a pretty good season in 2007, but broke his leg and the Steelers weren’t exactly sure if he’d be ready for the ... No sleep ’till Brooklyn
No team in the NHL has been more maligned over the last 20 years than the New York Islanders. Playing in one of mankind’s ugliest creations, the Nassau Coliseum (which I’m still convinced was built to look like an oval-shaped garage), they’ve fought for relevancy amidst a declining fan base. For the past decade, there have been talks of moving the Islanders, and that time has finally arrived. Starting in 2015, the New York Islanders will become the Brooklyn Islanders (unless they decide to ... Read More
