One of the strengths of the 2012-13 Pitt Panthers basketball team was the extraordinary depth that Panthers' head coach Jamie Dixon had at his disposal as Pitt was one of the rare teams in the country that could run 10 competent bodies out on a nightly basis. That's something that will likely change this season. Gone form that deep 2013 team are five players who were among the top eight Panthers in terms of minutes played. Steven Adams is in the NBA. Tray Woodall and Dante Taylor have ... Read More

Duquesne Men’s Basketball Season Preview
Once again this year, the Duquesne basketball program faced a disheartening offseason that saw the departure of five players who all saw action last season. Forward Quevyn Winters, a dead-eye from beyond the arc last year, decided to transfer closer to home, citing family reasons. Winters averaged 9.6 points and 22 minutes per game last season. The other players to leave include centers Martins Abele and Derrick Martin, along with point guard Marvin Binney and sophomore small forward Kadeem ... Read More
Patriots break record, Steelers spirits in blowout win
The rich, storied history of the Pittsburgh Steelers has seen, other than countless winning seasons and six Super Bowl victories, plenty of struggles as well. Not until Sunday, November 3, however, have the black and gold been so manhandled by an opposing offense. Today's sixty minutes played just outside of Boston were not kind to the Steelers (2-6), as the defense allowed a franchise-record 55 points in a 55-31 thrashing at the hands of the New England Patriots (7-2). Tom Brady and his ... Read More

Panthers must cut back on the fouls to contend in ACC
As Jamie Dixon’s Pitt Panthers basketball team prepares to begin its inaugural ACC season, the anthers could be in for quite the transition. For the Panthers to find themselves among the ACC’s best teams at seasons end, they have to get back to doing one thing- playing great defense. On the surface, Pitt’s defense was a typical good Panthers defense last season as they allowed only 0.94 points allowed per possession, which was good for third in the Big East Conference. However if you ... Read More
Penguin of the Week: Chris Kunitz
The Penguins had another strong week, going 4-0 this past week of play. In those four wins there was a common theme: Chris Kunitz scoring a goal. None of Kunitz's goals were of great importance. He didn't win any shootouts or score on a last second breakaway goal, but he was consistent. To start the week out, Kunitz scored a goal in the Pens 3-1 win over Carolina. He had six shots on the night and finished with 2 +/- rating. His goal put the Pens ahead for the win. On Wednesday, he, again, ... Read More

Georgia Tech sends Pitt to second straight defeat
For the second consecutive week the Pitt Panthers football team got a look at one of the nation’s most prolific rushing attacks. For the second consecutive week the Panthers got a look at the triple option. And for the second consecutive week the Pitt defense couldn’t get off the field late in the game as the Panthers dropped their second in a row, this time a 21-10 defeat to Georgia Tech in ACC Conference play. However this time it was the pass that beat the Panthers. Trailing 14-10 ... Read More
Pens sweep home and home behind Zatkoff’s shutout
The Columbus Blue Jackets expected to have a tough time scoring against Marc-Andre Fleury. Jeff Zatkoff? Probably not. Zatkoff stopped all 18 shots from Columbus en route to his first career shutout as the Penguins emerged victorious 3-0 at Nationwide Arena. It was a much better effort for Zatkoff, who had given up ten combined goals in his first two starts this season, both resulting in losses. Deryk Engelland broke a scoreless tie 6:46 into the second period. Joe Vitale wired a ... Read More
Roethlisberger is good but not elite
Ben Roethlisberger has done a lot for the Pittsburgh Steelers since being selected with the 11th overall pick in the 2004 NFL Draft. He's been a major part of two Super Bowl titles and almost pulled off a third championship with a last minute drive in Super Bowl XLV. He is, without a doubt, the best quarterback the Steelers have had since Terry Bradshaw. But he is not an elite quarterback in the NFL. The elite quarterbacks are Peyton Manning, Tom Brady, Drew Brees, and Aaron Rodgers ... Read More
