Pitt improves to 12-1 with win over Albany
For a while Jamie Dixon’s Pitt Panthers basketball team experienced a bit of a holiday hangover, going 10 days in between games. But Pitt eventually figured things out en route to a 58-46 victory over Albany in the Panthers final non-conference game before beginning ACC play. Pitt (12-1) struggled big time shooting the basketball in the first half, going 0-for-7 from behind the arc and 0-6 from the free-throw line. But while Pitt couldn’t get a jump shot to go until Cameron Wright canned a ... Read More
Steelers Week 17 Report Card
The Pittsburgh Steelers needed a lot to happen Sunday for them to find a way to back into the playoffs. That didn't happen, but at least they accomplished the first part of the equation by taking care of the Cleveland Browns with a dominating 20-7 victory. Ultimately the Steelers were nothing more than an 8-8 team again and .500 teams don't deserve to make the playoffs, even in a weak AFC. But their 6-2 finish to the season should give this Steelers team something positive to head into next ... Read More
PSAC West Hardwood Moment: Teams gearing up for the new year
The PSAC West is done for 2013. As they advance into the 2014 portion of the season, some teams will be focusing on the postseason while some will be looking to salvage a slow start. IUP (10-0) maintained its perfect record as they picked up wins over Millersville ((74-57), Shippensburg (77-46) and Kutztown (88-56). Mathis Keita led the way, averaging 19.0 points over the three games. Slippery Rock (10-3) is still trying to keep pace with IUP, but only picked up two wins in the three games ... Read More

Neal’s hat trick pushes Pens over Blue Jackets
As the Penguins gradually start to assemble all of their key pieces to what will hopefully be a Stanley Cup Championship puzzle, Sidney Crosby and James Neal continue to lead the way. James Neal tallied a hat trick and five points while Sidney Crosby add a goal and two assists of his own to route the Columbus Blue Jackets 5-3, Sunday night. The Penguins were deadlocked in a 2-2 tie going into the third period before exploding with three goals in the final frame. The Jackets didn't go ... Read More

Duquesne recorded its third straight win, in the last of a string of holiday road games, 88-69 over Texas Pan-American. The win also marked the third straight road victory for the Dukes (6-5), who also improved their road record to 3-1. Jim Ferry’s team shot 50 percent for the third straight game. The shooting effort was led, once again, by senior transfer Ovie Soko, who finished with a team high 21 points. Micah Mason scored 14 points, shooting 4 of 5 from beyond the arc, and Jeremiah Jones ... Read More
Chargers Eliminate Steelers From Playoffs
After completing a comeback victory in overtime against the Kansas City Chiefs, the San Diego Chargers (9-7) will be the sixth and final AFC playoff team, thus eliminating the Pittsburgh Steelers (8-8). Against mostly reserves playing for the Chiefs, who entered the game locked into the five seed in the AFC playoff picture, San Diego needed all four quarters and an overtime field goal to eventually defeat their AFC West rivals. Pittsburgh needed San Diego to lose to complete an improbable ... Read More
Playoff Hopes Still Alive as Steelers Dismiss Browns
Needing a victory and losses by three other AFC playoff hopefuls, the Pittsburgh Steelers (8-8) took care of business at Heinz Field on Sunday by defeating the Cleveland Browns (4-12) in the rain, by a 20-7 final. Pittsburgh also needed losses by the Miami Dolphins, who lost to the New York Jets, and the Baltimore Ravens, who trailed Cincinnati when the Steelers-Browns game ended. The last piece for an improbable and, dare I say, miraculous playoff berth, would be for San Diego to lose to a ... Read More
Steeler of the Week: Le’Veon Bell
Week to week, the Pittsburgh Steelers keep their playoff hopes alive. Last week was no different as the Steelers traded in the snow of Pittsburgh for the snow of Green Bay, picking up a 38-31 win in the process. A big part of that win came on the wings of rookie running back, Le'Veon Bell. Bell, a 2nd round pick out of Michigan State, put together his best game of his short NFL career in the win. Previous to the game, his best statistical game came against Baltimore when he ran for 93 ... Read More
