Yadier Molina scored from second on a game-winning single by Peter Bourjos in the ninth inning Wednesday, sending the Pittsburgh Pirates (71-68) to a series sweep to the NL Central division-leading St. Louis Cardinals (76-63) and a fourth consecutive loss. In a series in which everything seemed to go the way of the Cardinals, the Pirates failed to drive home any runs through nine innings before Mark Melancon (2-4) allowed a walk to Molina and two singles in his second inning of work. 2014 Steelers season preview
Andrew Barlow - Offensive preview Unbalanced, inconsistent, the epitome of average...all words accurately descriptive of Todd Haley's offense in an 8-8 2013 season last year for the Pittsburgh Steelers. It was a unit that averaged about 23.7 points per game, good for 17th of 32 in the NFL and seventh of 16 in the AFC. Ranked 12th overall in passing yards per game, it was definitely Ben Roethlisberger's offense as the running game struggled, ranking just 28th with only 86.4 yards per ... Read More

Tyler Boyd practices; other Pitt news
Pitt Panthers fans got some good news on Tuesday when sophomore wide receiver Tyler Boyd was back on the practice field. The guy who running back James Conner called “the best wide receiver in college football,” gave the Panthers and their fans a scare when he dislocated a finger on his left hand returning a punt in Saturday’s 62-0 victory against Delaware. All signs point to Boyd being ready to go when Pitt travels to Boston College on Friday. “He practiced yesterday and he’ll practice ... Read More
Wainwright does it all in Cardinals win over Pirates
Adam Wainwright pitched into the seventh inning with a lead and provided three RBI as the Cardinals extended their National League Central lead with a 6-4 win over the Pirates on Tuesday night. Wainwright didn't have his normal unhittable stuff allowing three Pirate home runs in the game, but his three RBI and the ineffectiveness of Jeff Locke kept the Cardinals in front. Locke could not find the strike zone in only three-plus innings of work. After escaping a bases loaded jam in the ... Read More

PSAC West Pigskin Preview: Edinboro
Coming off a rather disappointing 5-6 season in 2013, Edinboro is hoping to get off to a much better start in 2014. After posting back-to-back losing seasons, the Fighting Scots have a daunting schedule ahead of them. After being faced with a plethora of injuries a year ago, Edinboro never seemed to find a rhythm on the offensive side of the ball. After Cody Harris was injured, Jon Girvin stepped in at quarterback for the Fighting Scots. Between the two of them they accrued 2,114 passing ... Read More
