With all the buildup surrounding Andrew Luck and the 5-2 Indianapolis Colts, who would have thought it would be the Pittsburgh Steelers putting up 51 points, largely on the arm of Ben Roethlisberger? Believe it or not, it happened. Roethlisberger connected for a career high, and franchise record, 40 completions, 522 yards and six touchdowns. Antonio Brown finished with 10 receptions, 133 yards and two touchdowns while rookie Martavis Bryant registered 83 yards and two scores as ... Read More

Gannon’s record-setting day highlights week in PSAC West
GANNON 58, SETON HILL 28 After jumping out to a 28-17 halftime lead, Seton Hill squandered it away, allowing Gannon to score 41 unanswered points in the second half, giving the Knights a 58-28 win. Liam Nadler passed for an astounding school-record 494 yards and five scores in the win while also rushing for two scores. Gannon broke school records for total points, total yards, passing yards, second-half points, third-quarter points, total first downs and passing first downs. Wide receiver ... Read More
Penn State falls to Ohio State in overtime despite fourth-quarter effort
Penn State (4-3, 1-3 Big Ten) fell to Ohio State (6-1, 3-0 Big Ten) in a double overtime thriller by a final score of 31-24 despite a near miraculous fourth quarter show by the Nittany Lions. Ohio State opened the game with a bang; less than five minutes into the first quarter, defensive back Vonn Bell picked off one of Hackenberg’s passes to set up the Buckeyes’ first scoring drive. Running back Ezekiel Elliot rushed for 10 yards to give Ohio State their first touchdown of the night. They ... Read More
Penguins go the distance; shut out Predators 3-0
Just about any way you slice it, the Pittsburgh Penguins outplayed the Nashville Predators Saturday night. The Penguins outshot the Predators, 26 to 25. They outdrew them in the faceoff circle 23 to 18, and they beat them where it counts, the scoreboard, as the Penguins went wire-to-wire for a 3-0 victory in Nashville. The Penguins high-powered offense has certainly dominated their fair share of games over the last few seasons, but this one had a different feel. It wasn’t a flashy, fantastic ... Read More
Fumbling Panthers embarrassed at home
A college football record fell at Heinz Field Saturday afternoon and, unfortunately for the Pittsburgh Panthers (4-4, 2-2 ACC), it was a dubious one to set. The Panthers tied the all-time FBS record for lost fumbles in a quarter with a five in a disastrous first quarter that helped Georgia Tech (6-2, 3-2 ACC) to a 56-28 victory. In an incredible sequence of poor ball protection and bad luck, Pitt began the calamity with a fumble on the second play from scrimmage when QB Chad Voytik scrambled ... Read More
Penguins look to get back on track against Neal and the Predators
The Penguins will look to end their two-game slide tonight when they take on the Predators in Nashville. Greeting them will be a familiar foe: former Penguins winger James Neal. Neal scored 89 goals in parts of four seasons with the Penguins, including a career-best 40 in 2011-12. His trade was the first major move of the Jim Rutherford era, as the new Penguins General Manager sent Neal to Nashville for Patric Hornqvist and Nick Spaling. “I’m excited,” Neal said of his opportunity to play ... Striking similarities don’t mean a thing
James Franklin and Urban Meyer are two sides of the same coin. Outwardly, they have different personalities and approaches to the game, but inwardly, they have the same fire and determination to make a difference on the football field. They are the thorn in each other’s side, perhaps the fiercest competition and best gauge of success that the other has. However, that doesn’t mean that they’re all right with being compared to each other. In fact, at the Big Ten Media Days in Chicago, a ... Read More
Pirates acquire Stinson/Sellers
The Pirates have already begun to mold the organization for next season as they signed RHP Josh Stinson to a minor league contract and acquired minor league INF Justin Sellers from the Indians for cash considerations. The 26-year-old Stinson made Baltimore’s 2014 Opening Day roster and made seven appearances prior to being optioned to Triple-A Norfolk on April 28. He went 5-5 with a 5.48 ERA (85.1ip/52er) and one save in 22 games (13 starts) with Norfolk, winning five straight decisions from ... Read More
Luck, Colts in town as Steelers try to build winning streak
For about five glorious minutes out of the sixty played last Monday night, the Pittsburgh Steelers (4-3) looked unstoppable. Every play, every bounce went the way of the home team as luck was on their side, while the Houston Texans floundered and blew an early lead. On Sunday afternoon, Luck will be on the side of the visiting Indianapolis Colts (5-2), and that is bad news for a Steelers team trying to win two in a row for the first time this season. That bad pun, of course, refers to ... Read More
Steelers Emerge as Mid-season Playoff Contenders
The Pittsburgh Steelers reach the midway mark of their 2014 NFL campaign on Sunday when they take on the red-hot Indianapolis Colts at Heinz Field. It has been a wildly inconsistent first half of the season for the 4-3 Steelers, who have alternated between wins and losses through their first seven games and have been a betting disappointment, posting a mediocre 3-4 record ATS. Still, despite their struggles, the Steelers enter Week 8 in the playoff conversation and just a game off the ... Read More
