PSN Player of the week: Ben Roethlisberger
In what can easily be called the biggest no-brainer in our publication's existence, Steelers signal caller Ben Roethlisberger earned the honor of PSN Player of the week courtesy of one of the greatest performances ever by an NFL quarterback. The numbers are beyond ridiculous: 40 for 49, 522 yards and six touchdowns in a 52-34 blowout of the Indianapolis Colts. Roethlisberger became the first quarterback in NFL history to have two 500-yard passing games in his career, and was a mere 33 yards ... Read More
ACC Power Rankings: Week 9
1. Florida State (7-0, 4-0 ACC, BYE, Last Week-1) Will the Seminoles end up with more wins or more players linked to trouble with the law? That could be a tight race the rest of the season. Give them credit for putting all the distractions aside, but they better be focused this week, facing the top ranked defense in the nation. Up Next: Thursday at Louisville 2. Clemson (6-2, 5-1, defeated Syracuse 16-6, Last Week-2) It wasn’t pretty, but the Tigers got another win. With Deshaun Watson ... Read More
Penguins come from behind to rout Devils
For the better part of the past two decades, the New Jersey Devils have been one of the premier defensive teams in the NHL. Backstopped by surefire Hall of Famer Martin Brodeur in goal, and led by defensive masterminds like Larry Robinson, the Devils have carved an identity as one of the stingiest teams in the league. In previous years, when the Devils jumped out to an early 3-1 lead, the outcome of the game had already been decided as the Devils’ system would shut down the neutral zone. ... Read More
Pieces for offensive success coming together for Steelers
With the Pittsburgh Steelers halfway through the 2014 season, one question lingers about this team that suddenly finds itself in a first place tie with the Baltimore Ravens and Cincinnati Bengals: Who are these guys? These are the new Steelers, with a new brand of Steelers football that may have just allowed its franchise quarterback to catch up with some of the best in the league. Ben Roethlisberger threw for 522 yards and six touchdowns last Sunday against the Indianapolis Colts. He ... Read More
Penguins host Jagr and red-hot Devils
The New Jersey Devils will take their show on the road when they bring the best road record in the NHL to Consol Energy Center tonight to do battle with the Pittsburgh Penguins. The Devils are 4-0-1 away from their home ice this season. It’s an area of improvement for the team after going 20-38-17 on the road for the last two seasons under Head Coach Peter DeBoer. TONIGHT’S OPPONENT: The Devils will be without leading goal scorer Mike Cammalleri. Cammalleri came over from Calgary in the ... Read More
Jamie Dixon: The nation’s best coach never to reach a Final Four?
The Pitt Panthers will begin the 2014-15 season on Friday with an exhibition contest against Indiana University (PA.). With the beginning of every Panthers season, it also begins the catcalls of fans who believe that Pitt would be better off with someone other than Jamie Dixon leading the program. I tend to always get a laugh out of that because Dixon has done a heck of a job as the Pitt head coach and while he has yet to lead the Panthers to the Final Four, you still have to believe that ... Steelers Report Card after big win vs. Colts
Not many gave the Pittsburgh Steelers a real chance to beat Andrew Luck and the Indianapolis Colts Sunday afternoon, but thanks to an offensive explosion, that is exactly what happened in a 51-34 victory, which moves the Steelers to 5-3 and in the thick of things in the AFC North race. There were both a lot of positives and some negatives coming from the big win. With that being said, I take a look at both in my weekly Steelers Report Card. Quarterback: Quite simply a performance for the ages ... Read More
