After a rather slow start to the season, the Waynesburg Yellow Jackets men’s’ basketball team has picked things up as of late, mostly riding the shoulders of senior forward Jason Propst. After leading the Yellow Jackets to a 2-1 mark during the week, averaging a team-high 15.3 points per game, Propst was named the PAC Player of the Week. Propst scored 19 points during Waynesburg's 77-69 victory over Wittenberg in the opening round of the Charles B. Zimmerman Memorial Classic on December ... Read More

Steelers face more salary cap issues heading into offseason
As the Pittsburgh Steelers turn their eyes to next season, general manager Kevin Colbert and his staff are going to once again be in a familiar place. That would be salary cap hell. Colbert and company have had their backs up against the wall almost every offseason in memory and this upcoming one will be no different. The good news is that the cap will likely rise to around the $140 million range. The bad news is that the Steelers will likely already be over that number entering the ... Read More
Plenty more to come from Steelers WR Martavis Bryant
Antonio Brown caught so many passes for the 2014 Pittsburgh Steelers that it sometimes seemed like Ben Roethlisberger needed no other targets. He caught so many passes --- 129 in the 16 regular season games and nine more in the Wild Card playoff loss to Baltimore, to be exact. Both of those figures were highest in the NFL during the season and in the Ravens-Steelers Wild Card playoff game. He gained so, so many yards. He gained an absurd 1,698 receiving yards, also most in the league. Brown ... Read More
Steelers could find a hard time duplicating 2014 success next year
The 2014 season for the Pittsburgh Steelers came to an abrupt end Saturday night at the hands of the Baltimore Ravens, but while a return to the playoffs was a nice thing for Mike Tomlin’s squad, getting back there in 2015 could prove to be a daunting task. On the surface, while there is a lot to like about the progress this team made this season after missing the postseason the past couple of seasons, the reality of the situation is that it could be awfully difficult to sustain. This ... Read More
Duquesne downed by Dayton in A-10 opener
Duquesne (5-7, 0-1) fell to Dayton (11-2, 1-0) 81-55 in their Atlantic 10 opener Saturday at the UD Arena in Dayton, Ohio. Dayton’s sophomore guard Kyle Davis scored a game-high 17 points in leading the Flyers to a victory over the Dukes, who scored their second fewest points in a game this season next to a 52-point performance against Saint Francis on Dec. 17. Duquesne’s junior forward Jeremiah Jones led his team with 10 points. Freshman Eric James put up nine points for the Dukes, making ... Read More
Good luck finding one person to blame for Saturday’s Steelers loss
Pittsburgh Steelers’ fans are looking for someone to blame in the wake of the 30-17 beatdown they suffered at the hands of the Baltimore Ravens Saturday night that ended the 2014 season. Good luck finding one culprit. The simple truth is that it was a total team effort in the failure to secure victory. You can’t look at any phase of the game in which the Steelers didn’t lose the battle. Offensively, the gameplan seemed to be focused on establishing the run with an undrafted rookie Josh ... Steelers subdued in home Wild Card loss
In the third and most important battle in the 2014-15 season between the Baltimore Ravens and Pittsburgh Steelers, the home team had to play without its top running back and team MVP. The absence of Le'Veon Bell for the Pittsburgh Steelers proved to be too much as the Ravens advanced to an AFC Divisional playoff date next week at New England, winning 30-17 Saturday night at Heinz Field. Pittsburgh controlled much of the first half, dominating time of possession and earning 70 more yards, but ... Read More
He’s Ficken Here: Penn State Kicker Ends Illustrious Career
Sam Ficken is Penn State’s man of the hour, just like he has been for the last five months. It all started with his game-winning 36-yard field goal against UCF in Dublin, Ireland, at the Croke Park Classic and it ended with his game-winning extra point attempt (after tying the game on a 44-yard field goal with 20 seconds left in regulation) against Boston College in the New Era Pinstripe bowl at Yankee Stadium. Walk-off wins, which bookended his senior season, seem to have become Ficken’s ... Read More
Pittsburgh Steelers Report Card after playoff loss to Ravens
After a nice stretch of football for the past couple of months, the Pittsburgh Steelers reverted back to their old ways Saturday night as they saw their season come to a close with a 30-17 loss to the Baltimore Ravens. There wasn’t much to like about the Steelers performance in this one on either side of the ball. With that being said, here’s a look at how the team graded out in my weekly Pittsburgh Steelers Report Card. Quarterback- Without the threat of a running game, everything was ... Read More
Pitt the bed: There’s silver lining in bowl collapse
With the Pitt Panthers holding a commanding 31-6 fourth-quarter lead in the Armed Forces Bowl against the Houston Cougars, incoming head coach Pat Narduzzi certainly had to be pleased with what he saw from the team he was set to take over. After all, the Panthers had charged out to that seemingly insurmountable lead by dominating the Cougars for three quarters, and looked assured of a win that would not only give the Panthers their second consecutive bowl win, but positive momentum to start ...
