Penguins sign Teddy Blueger to entry-level contract
On Tuesday afternoon, the Pittsburgh Penguins general manager Jim Rutherford announced that they signed forward Teddy Blueger to a two-year, entry-level contract. The contract begins in the 2016-17 season and runs through the 2017-18 season. Blueger was chosen by the Penguins during the 2012 NHL Draft in the second round, 52nd overall. You can't say Pitt athletic director Scott Barnes isn't proactive. Less than 24 hours after announcing that Jamie Dixon has left the program to take the head coaching job at his alma mater TCU, Barnes reportedly already has an offer on the table for his top candidate. With Monday's news that Jamie Dixon is now the former head coach of the University of Pittsburgh, it brought plenty of emotion from Pitt fans. A lot of that sentiment was negative as many are glad that Dixon is headed to TCU. Duquesne (17-17) completed its season as it fell to Morehead State (21-12) 82-72 yesterday at Morehead, Kentucky in the quarterfinals of the College Basketball Invitational. Senior guard Micah Mason scored a game-high 24 points while senior guard Derrick Colter contributed 16 for the Dukes. Senior guard Brent Arrington led the Eagles with 17 points. The 2015-16 season was a magical one for the Duquesne Women's basketball team. Unfortunately it all came to an end Monday night in a 97-51 loss to No. 1 U Conn in the second round of the NCAA Tournament. Breanna Stewart scored 21 points and tied her career-high with 16 rebounds. Moriah Jefferson hit a career-high six three-pointers to score 20 points. For the first time in his 13 years as the head basketball coach at Pitt, Jamie Dixon had another job offer he seriously considered. Apparently heading back to his alma mater was enough to lure Dixon away from the place he called home for the last decade plus. Sidney Crosby named NHL’s first star of the week
For the second time this season, the Pittsburgh Penguins' captain, Sidney Crosby, has been named the NHL's first star of the week. Crosby has dominated lately and is currently third in the league in scoring behind Chicago's Patrick Kane and Dallas' Jamie Benn. Crosby also has a 12-game point streak, the longest of the season for him. He finished this past week with seven points, give of which being assists.
