It wasn't too long ago that Pittsburgh Steelers' running back Rashard Mendenhall was an afterthought for coach Mike Tomlin's plans for the first four or five games of the season. But remarkably that may not the be case as Mendenhall has been practicing with the Steelers' first team unit and according to several Steelers' players, including captain Brett Keisel, who told Jim Wexell of Scout.com, "He looked incredible." Linebacker Lawrence Timmons also chimed in on Mendenhall by saying “I ... Read More

Pitt Panthers Basketball Schedule Released
When we last saw Jamie Dixon and the Pitt Men's basketball team, the were putting the finishing touches on a disappointing 2011-12 season by defeating Washington State to win the CBI Tournament. While the 2011-12 season didn't go exactly the way Dixon and company may have planned, the Panthers are hoping for a rebound season this year. As they prepare for the 2012-13, Dixon and the Panthers can really get to work as their schedule has been released for the upcoming campaign. The Panthers ... Read More
Brock Holt the everyday shortstop?
I'm pulling for Brock Holt. I really am. I was excited to watch him collect four hits last night as the Pirates defeated the Astros in a crucial game. Heck, I like Holt a lot just for the hashtags that people use around his name. (Lightning Holt, Party like a Brock-star, Brock you like a Hurricane are some of my favorites). But as expected when a player does well in his first handful of games, especially when they can play middle infield, the question comes if this guy can play shortstop or ... Read More
Dukes Look to Shore Up Pass Defense in Home Opener
For one half at least, things looked good for the Duquesne Dukes in their season opener against Old Dominion. Duquesne took a 20-10 halftime lead into the locker room against No. 6 Old Dominion- the highest ranked FCS team that the Dukes have ever faced. Then Monarchs quarterback Taylor Heinicke went nuts, setting school records for yards (492) and passing attempts (63) as Old Dominion ended up cruising to a 57-23 season opening victory. Duquesne allowed 723 total yards and Heinicke ... Read More

Waynesburg improves to 2-0 after shutting out Pitt-Greensburg
GREENSBURG, Pa. (Sept. 4) – It was a very productive night in Greensburg for the Waynesburg men’s soccer team as it took on Pitt-Greensburg. Not only did the Yellow Jackets improve to 2-0 under new head coach Carl Griffiths, but they pitched their second-straight shutout during the 2-0 victory. The win gave Waynesburg its first 2-0 start to a season since 2003 and also ended UPG’s season-long four-game winning streak. Just like their first triumph of 2012, the Yellow Jackets scored all the ... Read More
Chapman adds to Pitt’s QB depth
While the Paul Chryst era may be off to an incredibly disappointing start on the field, it’s off to a solid start on the recruiting trail. Chryst’s first class at Pitt is headlined by Roosevelt HS (Kent, OH) quarterback Tra’von Chapman, who committed to the Panthers in June. Chapman is rated the No. 13 QB in the 2013 class by Scout and No. 18 by Rivals. Both services consider him a four-star prospect. Chapman also had offers from Wisconsin, Cincinnati, Arizona, and others. Chapman is a ... Read More

Fixing Defense, Not Sunseri Priority No. 1 for Panthers
For Pitt Panthers fans, it's become a habit to point the finger at quarterback Tino Sunseri after every heartbreaking Panthers defeat. Not this time. While Sunseri certainly could always be better under center for the Panthers, he shouldn't even be a concern for new head coach Paul Chryst as the Panthers have a quick turnaround, beginning Big East Conference play Thursday night at Cincinnati. All attention should be on fixing the Pitt defense and doing so quickly. With big games against ... Read More
