Yesterday it was the NHLPA's turn to submit a proposal and have it shot down. Union spokesman, Donald Fehr, proposed the latest CBA plan -what he called a "dramatic move"- around noon Wednesday and the league promptly said no. If you're starting to get worried about another missed NHL season, you're not alone. Fehr's proposal compromised with the league's demands of a 50/50 HRR split while adding the "make whole" provision which slowly reimburses players who would be in violation of the new ... Read More

Dukes Dominate the Glass in 84-74 Win
Pittsburgh—The daily rebounding drills in practice are paying off for Duquesne—or at least it seemed that way tonight. The Dukes as a team had their best performance on the glass that any Duquesne team has had in a years. They outrebounded their opponent Youngstown State by a margin of 53-29. The last time they outrebounded a Division I opponent by a margin of 20 or more was on November 9, 2007 against Howard. When a team rebounds this well, odds are they will win any game they play. Perhaps ... Read More
Michigan Hands Pitt First Loss of Season
Wednesday night, Jamie Dixon’s Pitt Panthers got their first real test of the season in No. 4 Michigan and while the Panthers clearly passed the test, they came up just a bit short and suffered their first defeat of the season. It was a very tight game throughout and the Panthers led 33-29 at the half and kept that lead until the 11 minute mark of the second half, but ultimately Michigan pulled away and escaped the Garden with a 67-62 win to advance to the finals of the Preseason NIT. A ... Read More
Panthers Get First Real Test in No. 4 Michigan
Jamie Dixon's 4-0 Pitt Panthers get their first real test of the season Wednesday night when they hook up with No. 4 Michigan in the semifinals of the Preseason NIT in Madison Square Garden. The Panthers executed well at both ends of the floor in the early going, but doing so against the likes of Mount St. Mary's, Fordham, Lehigh and Oakland is one thing, but doing so against the Wolverines could be a different story altogether. Pitt has won their four games in different ways, but mostly ... Read More
Time for Steelers to find Polamalu’s Replacement
In 2003 the Steelers traded up in the first round for the 16th pick. They used that pick to select Troy Polamalu; a safety out of Southern California. Many thought it was questionable move because of him not being able to perform at the Senior Bowl, or the NFL Combine. He impressed enough scouts at his Pro Day I guess since he was worthy of the Steelers trading up to get him. Polamalu was the only safety that the Steelers have drafted in the first round. The move worked out quite well for the ... Read More
Duquesne Goes Cold, Gets Trampled by North Dakota State 57-43
Pittsburgh—Duquesne took the court for the second night in a row Tuesday against Summit League opponent North Dakota State. The visiting Bison, who were picked to finish 2nd in the Summit League this season, came out ready to play. They started the game with a 9-0 run and maintained a double figure lead for most of the game. Their first turnover didn’t come until 3:40 of the opening period. Duquesne simply didn’t help themselves much throughout the game. In addition to a number of errant ... Read More

Pittsburgh Steelers sign Plaxico Burress and Brian Hoyer
The Pittsburgh Steelers needed to make some roster moves before their AFC North battle with the Cleveland Browns on Sunday and did so by signing former Steelers' wide receiver Plaxico Burress and former New England Patriots' backup quarterback Brian Hoyer. With injuries to both Antonio Brown (ankle) and Jerricho Cotchery (ribs), depth was needed at receiver and Burress was the logical choice. He's coming off a solid 2011 season with the New York Jets in which he caught 45 passes, eight of ... Read More
Tray Woodall Becoming the Leader Jamie Dixon is Looking For
Pitt Panthers head coach Jamie Dixon has always been able to lean on his veteran leadership. Usually always blessed with an experienced basketball team, things took a turn in a hurry last season as the Panthers became extremely young almost overnight. His one leader- Ashton Gibbs- turned out to be anything but that and the youth showed up in Pitt’s disappointing record. But things may be back to normal for Dixon and the Panthers, because once again he has that leader on the ... Read More
It’s Official, Plaxico Burress is back with Steelers
After watching Plaxico Burress work out Tuesday, the Pittsburgh Steelers signed the veteran wide receiver. "Plaxico is in very good physical condition, from what I saw today," Steelers coach Mike Tomlin said. Burress played last season with the New York Jets after spending nearly two years in prison for illegal possession of a firearm. Despite missing the 2009 and 2010 seasons, Burress was productive with the Jets, hauling in 45 receptions and eight touchdowns. But the 35-year-old has ... Read More
