Pitt head coach Paul Chryst landed another local blue-chipper for the future on Friday when Central Valley high school standout Jordan Whitehead announced in a press conference today that he had committed to Pitt. What school Whitehead was going to choose has been a hot topic as of late and the Panthers landed him over West Virginia, Penn State, Ohio State and others. Whitehead is a four-star recruit in every ratings service and Rivals.com lists him as the 30th-best defensive back in the ... Read More

Analyzing the Penguins roster
The Pittsburgh Penguins preseason came to a close on Wednesday night with a 2-0 victory over the Detroit Red Wings. The team finished the preseason with a 3-3 record, and finally got Sidney Crosby back on the ice for the finale. On Thursday, they released forward Daniel Carcillo from his tryout agreement. The team still has 31 players on its roster. The league’s regular season maximum is 23, so Jim Rutherford, Mike Johnston, and their staffs will have some work to do to decide who will stay ... Pittsburgh Steelers secondary must improve quickly
Pittsburgh Steelers’ general manager Kevin Colbert chose not to address the cornerback position when the 2014 NFL Draft came and went, unless you consider drafting Shaquille Richardson in the fifth round addressing the situation. Despite Ike Taylor’s struggles throughout the 2013 campaign, Colbert also elected to not to address the position in free agency, electing to stick with what he has. At the end of the day, that decision could prove costly as this secondary is not a very good one, ... Read More
Nittany Lions hoping to ‘fix it’ going forward
On Friday night, there was a lot of social media buzz about Penn State entering the postseason undefeated. On Saturday night, there was a lot of social media outrage at what ESPN called “the biggest loss since 2001.” Penn State was 4-0 for the first time since 2008, due largely in part to how well the team has bonded. Quarterback Christian Hackenberg called his team a “tight-knit group,” and the players have responded well to head coach James Franklin’s program. His involvement-above-all ... Read More
Last night showed the Pirates aren’t great yet
Last night's loss in the National League Wild Card game has left a bitter taste in the mouths of Pirates fans after a solid 88-74 campaign in 2014, but should it have been expected? The Pirates were facing Madison Bumgarner — one of the best pitchers in the game this season — who dominated the game from first pitch to last out in a complete-game effort. Edinson Volquez could have thrown a gem and they still would have lost. The Pirates finally ran into a good team and couldn't stick with ... Read More
ACC Power Rankings: Week 5
It was another lackluster week for most of the ACC, with only a couple of teams turning in solid performances, while most of the conference looked rather bad during the week. With that being said, here are my ACC Power Rankings for Week 5 of the college football season. Florida State (4-0, 2-0 ACC, defeated NC State 56-41, Last Week’s Ranking 1) It wasn't pretty, but FSU doesn't have a whole lot of obstacles between them and winning the conference. The defending champs have been far ... Read More
Pirates season ends at the hands of Bumgarner/Crawford
Madison Bumgarner pitched a dominant complete game shutout and Brandon Crawford hit a fourth inning grand slam to pace the Giants to a 8-0 Wild Card victory eliminating the Pirates from postseason competition. Bumgarner had the Pirate bats off balance throughout the night painting the corners and mixing his fastball and off-speed pitches. The Pirates could only scratch together four hits and one walk in the contest and were not able to put more than one runner on until the ninth when the game ... Read More

Season Series The Pirates took the season series (4-2) to lock up home field for tonight's Wild Card game.
