Over the past few years, the Hammermill Center in downtown Erie has become a house of horrors for the California women’s basketball team. Going into Wednesday night, the Vulcans had lost seven straight meetings in Gannon’s home building dating back to Jan. 2011. This Wednesday night in Erie was different from the rest for the Vulcans. Backed again by a duo of 20-point performances from Shatara Parsons and Seairra Barrett, Cal knocked off Gannon 83-78 to slay the ghosts of games past in the ... Read More

Steelers face tough choices to find quarterback depth
The Pittsburgh Steelers learned the hard way how difficult it is to get consistent contributions from the backup quarterback position after Ben Roethlisberger battled the injury bug last season. Add a season-ending injury during camp to veteran Bruce Gradkowski, and the Steelers were forced to lean on Michael Vick and Landry Jones to carry the load. Vick struggled mightily in three starts and though Jones did have a few bright spots in his two starts, there were plenty of ugly moments for the ... Read More

Pitt desperate for win as tournament in jeopardy
Rewind the calendar just a couple of weeks and the Pitt Panthers were in a pretty solid spot. Despite not having a real good win on the season, Pitt sat 17-4 overall and more importantly 6-3 in a very tough ACC. That left them in a solid spot for the NCAA Tournament as three weeks ago Jamie Dixon's team was being viewed at best as a No. 5 seed. My how times have changed in just a couple short weeks. Pitt sits at 6-6 in the ACC and 17-7 overall and while that isn't bad, they still don't have ... Read More

Coming off of a five-game losing streak, the Panthers came into tonight’s game hoping to end the streak that began with the Penguins earlier this month. The first period gave way to something Penguins fans have seen far too often, turnover after turnover, and a team that acts like they do not want to be on the ice. Halfway through the period, Panthers center Nick Bjugstad scored the ... Read More
