The Pittsburgh Riverhounds know how to make themselves popular. If there's anything Pittsburgh sports fans love, it's when local teams sign local players. The Riverhounds did just that by signing goalkeeper Brenden Alfery to his first professional contract. Alfery is from Cheswick, Pa. His name first became known around western Pennsylvania whenever he started playing soccer for Central Catholic high school. He then went to Grove City college for the first two years of his college career. He ... Read More

Through three quarters, Edinboro had the ... Read More
Steelers meet with cornerbacks Eli Apple and Mackensie Alexander
The Pittsburgh Steelers defense wasn't incredible, as it has been in recent years, last season. However, it wasn't the worst either. If one word is picked to sum up the Steelers defense last year, more specifically the secondary, it would be inconsistent. Antwon Blake, Brandon Boykin, William Gay, and Ross Cockrell were the main cornerbacks last season, especially when Cortez Allen wasn't able to participate. However, Blake most of all, they were not consistent. The secondary would have ... Read More

Pirates win Spring Training opener
Last season was a frustrating one to say the least for Jordy Mercer. The Pirates shortstop, known for his defense, could not match that intensity to the offensive side of the game and missed significant time with a left leg injury. Tuesday's Spring Training opening game against the Detroit Tigers shows that Mercer has moved on from last year as he hit one of two Pirates home runs on the day. The Pirates also took the victory winning by a 4-2 score. Francisco Cervelli hit the other ... Read More

COLUMN: Forward-thinking Pirates cannot abandon that approach
As reported by the Tribune Review, tensions recently flared between Gerrit Cole and the Pirates' management. As a quick primer, Cole was upset at the club's offer for his 2016 salary. While the initial offer was for $538,000, general manager Neal Huntington later admitted that figure to be a mistake. The final offer, signed by Cole, is for $541,000. For those who may not know, any MLB player with 0-3 years of service (or, "Pre-Arbitration") is subject to the league minimum salary of ... Read More
Tyler Boyd unimpressive at NFL Combine
Once Pitt wide receiver Tyler Boyd declared for the NFL Draft, there have been plenty of different opinions on where Boyd would be drafted. What you have come up with is Boyd could go anywhere from the middle of the first round, all the way down to the third round. His performance to date at the NFL Combine certainly hasn't done Boyd any favors when it comes to his draft stock. Boyd ran the 40-yard dash in 4.58 seconds at the Combine, adding a 34-inch vertical, 119-inch broad jump, ... Read More
Vernon Adams meets with Steelers at NFL Combine
The Pittsburgh Steelers might have their eye on a certain Oregon Duck for the NFL Draft. The team met with quarterback Vernon Adams, who was with the Ducks in his senior season, during the NFL Combine in Indianapolis this past weekend. According to Rand Getlin, a reporter for NFL Network, Adams had a formal interview with the Steelers in Indianapolis. The Steelers could certainly use a younger quarterback to backup veteran quarterback Ben Roethlisberger. Adams has been widely compared ... Read More
