When it comes to back up quarterbacks, the Steelers had quite a roller coaster run last year. The team originally had Bruce Gradkowski and Landry Jones backing up Ben Roethlisberger. However, a preseason injury sent Gradkowski to the injured reserve. The Steelers then signed quarterback Michael Vick to their squad. When Roethlisberger went down, Vick was the guy to take charge of the offense. However, he did so only for a short time, as he would fall to a hamstring injury. That left ... Read More

Steelers meet with Vernon Butler, Carl Nassib at Combine
Carl Nassib may just be the next Penn State University player to be drafted by the Pittsburgh Steelers. The Steelers have a history of bringing in PSU players, with their most recent draft pick being tight end Jesse James last year in the NFL Draft. This year, Nassib, who is 6'7 and 272 lbs., might be the one that follows in James' footsteps from being a Nittany Lion to being a Steeler. The Steelers met with Nassib at the NFL Combine this past weekend in Indianapolis. Nassib participated in ... Read More
Brault looks to make impact as non-roster invite for Pirates
The amount of pitching depth the Pittsburgh Pirates have within their minor league system is noticeable. All you have to do is look at the talent that is gracing the fields at Pirates City in Bradenton, Fla. The brigade of young talent includes Tyler Glasnow, Jameson Taillon and Nick Kingham, as well as non-roster invites Chad Kuhl and Trevor Willams. However, one pitcher in particular that should attract attention will be non-roster invite Steven Brault. In January of 2015, the Pirates ... Read More
Pens use big second period to defeat Rangers
When it comes to playing the Rangers, the past few seasons have not been too kind to the Penguins. The Broadway Blueshirts have ended the Pens' last two seasons, and boast an 11-1-1 record in the last 13 meetings including playoffs. The Penguins urgency finally paid off Thursday night. Behind three goals late in the second period, the Penguins cruised to a 4-1 win over the Rangers at Consol Energy Center. The first period was rather slow with both teams heading into the intermission tied at ... Read More
Pirates pitching allows 10 runs in loss
Two of the Pirates free agent pitching acquisitions both took to the mound for the first time and delivered mixed results in a 10-8 loss Thursday to the Toronto Raptors. For a second consecutive game the Pirates starting pitcher in the game was unable to find success. This time it was Jonathon Niese who allowed four runs on five hits in two innings. Niese was acquired in the trade which sent Neil Walker to the New York Mets. He also walked one batter and struck out two. Ryan Vogelsong ... Read More
Inconsistent Pitt falls to Virginia Tech
Just when you thought it was safe for the Pitt Panthers to punch its ticket to the NCAA Tournament, Jamie Dixon's team came out and showed what type of team they are once again Wednesday night at Virginia Tech. A very inconsistent one. Just three days after pounding Duke at home for its best win of the season, Pitt fell to Virginia Tech 65-61, once again putting its tournament hopes on life support. Zach LeDay had 20 points and 10 rebounds and Virginia Tech used a 16-4 second-half run to pull ... Read More
PSAC West men’s notebook: IUP plays complete game to advance past UPJ
IUP’s men’s basketball team seemed to do everything right Tuesday night in their quarterfinal matchup. The Crimson Hawks dominated with a balanced scoring attack on offense, and slowed down the red hot three-point shooting of Pitt-Johnstown to win 77-66. The game played out very similar to IUP’s domination of UPJ last year in the first round in the PSAC playoffs. The Mountain Cats took an early lead before the Crimson Hawks (21-7) three-point shooting took off. IUP hit four three-pointers ... Read More
Steelers meet with Austin Hooper, Tyler Ervin at Combine
The Pittsburgh Steelers need some work in bolstering their tight end and running back groups. The team has solid players in the position already, however there is still need for more. The Steelers lost a tight end when Heath Miller announced his retirement. The Steelers still have Jesse James and Matt Spaeth under contract. However, NFL rosters normally have three tight ends. Because of that, the Steelers met with Austin Hooper at the NFL Combine. The Steelers had a formal interview with ... Read More

Pirates fall to Tigers, 10-3
Skepticism would be a good way to describe how fans feel about Jeff Locke projecting to be a part of this season's Pittsburgh Pirates pitching rotation. Locke did himself no favors allowing four runs in his two innings of a 10-3 loss to the Detroit Tigers. Pirates pitching coach Ray Searage has worked with Locke to try to correct things which could allow him to find more consistent success and this could very well be a byproduct of making the adjustment. It also could be the same old ... Read More
