What's ailing the Pittsburgh Steelers these days? Past the halfway point in the season with the team staring at its 4-5 record, there seem to be plenty of theories being thrown about by fans, players and coaches alike. Is it poor coaching, as some have suggested in the wake of the excruciating, last-second loss to what might be the best team in the NFL, the Dallas Cowboys? Although there could be some credence to that argument, especially after four straight losses, I'm not sure that's ... Read More

Following the College Football Playoff (CFP) rankings being released Tuesday night, the 8-2 Penn State Nittany Lions now sit at No. 8 in the playoff committee's ranking to go along with being ranked No. 9 in the AP Top 25 and No. 10 in the Coaches Poll. While making the College Football Playoff remains a long shot, the bowl game picture got much clearer after the chaos this past weekend. The Nittany Lions continue to be a legitimate contender in the Big Ten Championship race, currently ... Read More
Grades: Pittsburgh Steelers vs. Dallas Cowboys
The Pittsburgh Steelers are now riding a four-game losing streak after their 35-30 loss to the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday. On the other side of things, Dallas won its eighth-straight game. The Steelers had a chance to win the game, especially after going up near the end of the fourth quarter. However, the defense faltered once again, letting Ezekiel Elliott run all over them and score a touchdown with nine seconds left. Sunday's loss wasn’t as negative as the one to the Baltimore Ravens in ... Read More
Riverhounds sign John Manga and Ritchie Duffie
The Pittsburgh Riverhounds are continuing to revamp their roster for the 2017 season. A mere three days after signing goalkeeper Keasel Broome, the Riverhounds signed forward John Manga and defender Ritchie Duffie. Riverhounds head coach Dave Brandt brought the two to Pittsburgh for a trial. Manga played collegiately for the University of Cincinnati, while Duffie played collegiately for Virginia Commonwealth University. Manga competed with the Bearcats all four years. His best year was his ... Read More
What does Pitt’s upset of Clemson mean for rest of season?
One snap. One final play. And the fate of the game between the Pitt Panthers and Clemson Tigers rested directly on the foot of Panthers kicker Chris Blewitt. Despite having an earlier kick blocked and missing an extra point, he wouldn't be deterred. Blewitt’s final try from 48 yards sailed just inside the left upright and through the posts into Pitt history. 43-42, Panthers. While this year’s Clemson squad hasn’t had quite the same overwhelming presence as last year’s final-4 team that ... Read More
DE Cam Heyward done for season
On Instagram, Pittsburgh Steelers defensive end Cam Heyward announced he's out for the remainder of the 2016 season with a pectoral injury. He wrote: “I would like to thank everyone who has been in my corner this season. It pains me to say that I will not get to continue playing this season. My role will change as I can not play but it will not change the goals the team has set out. My support for this team will only grow and I look forward in watching this team grow and fight on. Hate being ... Read More
Mike Tomlin was right to go for two
In Sunday’s loss to the Dallas Cowboys, the Pittsburgh Steelers attempted four 2-point conversions — and were successful on exactly zero of them. The failure led to many fans calling for head coach Mike Tomlin’s head. Some even wanted him gone right then and there, middle of the game be damned. But everyone needs to just calm down for a second. If you look at the math, Tomlin was completely right to go for two points against the Cowboys, at least on the first conversion and probably on the ... Read More
Chaos puts Penn State in thick of Playoff Race
“What marvelous chaos!” That saying, usually reserved for the NHL by award-winning announcer (and Pittsburgh Pirates fan) Mike “Doc” Emrick, perfectly encapsulated this weekend's college football games. The No. 10 Penn State Nittany Lions entered the weekend needing a perfect storm to make the Big Ten championship game as well as to be considered for the College Football Playoff. Saturday night, the perfect storm started to pick up major steam. Coming into the weekend, to make the Big Ten ... Read More
Three up, three down: Steelers vs. Cowboys
What a game. And what a loss. The Pittsburgh Steelers (4-5) almost held on to beat the Dallas Cowboys (8-1) but ending up falling, 35-30, on a last-second touchdown run by Ezekiel Elliott. Here's this week’s edition of “Three up, three down.” Three up: Roethlisberger shines at Heinz Field— Well, you certainly can't blame the crushing loss to the Cowboys on the Steelers' franchise signal caller. Once again, Ben Roethlisberger put up massive numbers at home, tallying 408 yards through the air ... Read More
