Malkin Returns as Metallurg Falls 4-3 in OT
Evgeni Malkin tallied an assist in a losing effort as Metallurg Magnitogorsk fell 4-3 to Salavat Yulaev. It was Malkin's first game in the KHL since the 2005-2006 season when he tallied 47 points in 46 games as a 19 year old. At the time, the Penguins had already called "Geno's" name on draft day, but since the NHL suffered a season-long lockout, the Russian stayed home. It wasn't until the end of 2006 when Malkin appeared at Mario Lemieux's doorstep looking to join the Penguins. With ... Read More
The Pirates second collapse could be worst season in 19 years
It's happened. It's officially happened. I've remained mum on the situation for the past month or so, but tonight was the nail in the coffin. The Pirates officially are a losing ball club with their loss to the Brewers tonight. .500 was the dream for fans for the better part of two decades and this had to be the year. There were nothing but talks of making the playoffs because .500 was a given. Seriously, 16 games over .500 in late July, how could it not happen? The simple question is who ... Read More
Pitt’s Jahmahl Pardner Lost for Season
There wasn't a whole lot of bad news that came from Pitt's 35-17 victory over Virginia Tech last Saturday, but they did receive some when it was made known that talented freshman cornerback Jahmahl Pardner will have surgery to repair a torn ACL this week and will miss the rest of the 2012 season. Pardner suffered the injury against the Hokies on Saturday. He appeared in all three games this season on special teams and as a nickel-back, recording three tackles, one sack, and one forced ... Pitt Defense Looking to Build Off Encoraging Performace vs. Hokies
After Pitt’s big win last Saturday against Virginia Tech, much has been made of the way Tino Sunseri and the Panthers’ offense performed. Why not? All Sunseri did was win Big East Offensive Player of the Week after completing 19-of-28 passes for 283 yards and three touchdowns. In addition, the Pitt offense racked up 537 yards, their highest total since 2000. However while Sunseri and freshman running back Rushel Shell’s 157 yards on the ground were a big part of the Panthers victory, that ... Read More
The Steelers in a trap game? Not so fast
I’ve heard rumblings afoot about the Steelers-Raiders tilt being “a trap game” due to the fact that the up-trending Steelers are favored by a mere four points on the road against an 0-2 Raider squad that has underperformed at home and on the road. Why such a tempting offer of minus 4? The prevailing logic suggests that if something is too good to be true, then it probably is. The Steelers laying four to make the post-Al Davis Raiders a home dog certainly meets that criteria. All the ... Read More

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Slippery Rock University looks to continue its winning ways and stay atop the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference-Western Division football standings Saturday when it travels to Erie to take on the Lakers of Mercyhurst University. Who Says Cheaters Never Win?
I’m sure you’ve all heard the phrase “Cheaters Never Win.” Apparently that’s not always the case. Major League Baseball has announced that Melky Cabrera, who is currently serving a 50-game suspension for using a banned substance, will in fact be eligible to win the NL batting title. One player of local interest, Andrew McCutchen, currently trails Cabrera by seven points (.346 to .339) and doesn’t have much longer to make up the ground. If Cabrera wins, he will have done it despite missing ... Read More
It’s time for Steelers fans to forget about “The Bus”
At 5-foot, 11-inches, he was hardly an intimidating persona. Weighing in at 252 pounds, he would at times appear pudgy and out of shape. His perpetually smiling face hardly instilled the kind of fear that Ravens’ linebacker Ray Lewis’ scowl did. Yet, despite these facts, former Steelers’ running back Jerome Bettis captured the love and adoration of Pittsburghers for a decade, and to this day stands as one of the most celebrated athletes in the city’s history. When Bettis benevolently ... Read More
