After a great performance Sunday night against the Carolina Panthers, in which he rushed for 147 yards in a Pittsburgh Steelers victory, running back Le'Veon Bell started opening up some eyes nationally in the process. Three weeks into the 2014 season, Bell leads all NFL players with 461 yards from scrimmage and what made his Week 3 performance even better, was the fact that he had a big night against what could be one of the NFL's best front sevens. Through three games, he has 315 yards ... Read More

Braves hit Locke, beat Pirates 6-2
Jeff Locke struggled in his final regular season start of the 2014 season allowing the Braves to score early and often in a 6-2 victory over the Pirates on Wednesday night. Locke allowed six runs in four innings of work putting the Pirates in an early hole. Emilio Bonifacio started things with a 2 RBI single in the second. It followed a misplay on a line drive to Starling Marte and a fielding error by Ike Davis to extend the inning. Braves starter Julio Teheran helped himself with a 2 RBI ... Read More
ACC Power Rankings: Week 4
Through four weeks of the 2014 college football season, the 14 Atlantic Coast Conference teams have left us all scratching our heads. Florida State beat Clemson, which is supposed to be the league's second-best team, despite not having Heisman Trophy winner Jameis Winston. All of the teams that opened up eyes during the season’s first three weeks- Pitt, Virginia and Virginia Tech -- all lost on Saturday to make the conference look fairly weak. It has been a weird start to the season in ... Read More

Pirates should be looking for more in 2014
"To celebrate is fun, but we've still got to take care of business."-Andrew McCutchen I could not help but latch onto that quote from the Pirates NL MVP candidate and star center fielder. Like a lot of other Pirates fans, we watched the Pirates celebrate a second consecutive playoff birth. We logged onto Twitter to remind people who gave up on the Pirates when the Pirates were 10-18 in early May, that this team was resilient and never gave up. They found a way. We maybe even kicked ... It's been 21 years, 11 months and 10 days since the Pirates were three outs away from popping the champagne in Atlanta. The Pirates (86-71) did it the hard way for the 41st time coming back from an early 2-0 defecit after the Braves scored once in the first and second innings off of Gerrit Cole. Be consistent when judging athletes
Let me start out by saying this. My views on this are exactly that. They don’t in any way represent Pittsburgh Sporting News as a whole. That being said, if you support James Harrison’s return to the Steelers but were bashing Ray Rice a few weeks ago, you’re inconsistent, and you’re a hypocrite. It’s really as simple as that. How quick we forget what Harrison did to his girlfriend at the time, Beth Tibbot. Yes, the case was dropped and Harrison had to undergo anger management, but ... Read More
