Vance Worley [1-1] started the game and pitched three innings allowing five base runners and a single run. Worley struck out a batter and has a Spring Training ERA of 4.95. The run off Worley came in the second inning when Nick Castellanos hit a sacrifice fly to score Yoenis Cespedes. In the fourth inning, the Pirates scored four runs to ... Read More

Pirates will start Harrison at hot corner
Pittsburgh Pirates fans are very excited about the prospects of the third base position in 2015 as Pedro Alvarez has moved across the diamond. Alvarez played himself off the hot corner with a cold bat and also the most errors in all of Major League Baseball. It became a mental issue and this combined with Josh Harrison's dependability led to a switch. Now Harrison goes into 2015 as the clear starter although Jung-ho Kang and Sean Rodriguez will serve as back ups. Harrison likely will be ... Read More
Gary Agnew an underrated part of Penguins success on defense
When general manager Jim Rutherford took over his position, he had a long of work to do in overhauling the Pittsburgh Penguins. He had a front office to rearrange, a new coaching staff to hire and he had to do something with the team on the ice that blew a first-round series to the New York Rangers last spring. The jury is still out on some of those moves. Several efforts to reinvigorate the team’s bottom-six forwards seem to have mostly failed, while a contract extension to goaltender ... Read More
Two Riverhounds earn USL honors
Pittsburgh Riverhounds midfielders Rob Vincent and Kevin Kerr were named to the first United Soccer League team of the week of 2015 on Tuesday. The pair of midfielders, who were deployed on the wings in a 4-5-1 formation by head Coach Mark Steffens, combined to score all five of the club’s goals in their 5-2 win over the Harrisburg City Islanders in the home opener on Saturday. Vincent, 24, scored two goals and assisted on two of Kerr’s tallies. The Liverpool-born midfielder led the team ... Read More

Running back depth in draft gives Steelers plenty of options
With the NFL draft set to begin in less than a month, talk regarding the Steelers needs has mainly revolved around the defense. That is understandable considering the un-Steelerlike work by the unit in 2014, and it has many fans expecting a run on defensive talent when it comes time to make their picks when the draft commences on April 30. However, even with Le'Veon Bell and recent free agent signee DeAngelo Williams potentially becoming an outstanding 1-2 punch at running back, the Steelers ... Read More
Mailbag: How can the Penguins replace Kris Letang?
We got a lot of questions this week surrounding Kris Letang's injury and the Penguins playing with only five defensemen on Saturday. Let's dive right in. Why can’t the Penguins call up a defenseman or exchange a forward on the roster for a defenseman in Wilkes-Barre to balance out the roster? The Pens don’t have enough cap space to call up Tux (that’s the WBS mascot, if you didn’t know), let alone a player. Some back-of-the-envelope math reveals less than $100 thousand of cap space in the ... Read More
Cal U women win title in memory of Shanice Clark
The game's final buzzer sounded, signalling Cal U's 86-69 victory over Cal Baptist to claim the Division II Women's National Championship Friday night. "Shanice! Shanice! Shanice!" That was the battle cry of the Lady Vulcans as they stormed the court to celebrate the victory. Their mantra, of course, was in memory of Shanice Clark, the Cal U women's basketball player who passed away abruptly on January 18 after choking in her sleep. Reports later showed that Clark passed away from ... Read More
Locked up: Pirates set rotation, talk extension with Gregory Polanco
The Pirates took care of business today on and off the field. In Grapefruit league action, the Pirates dominated the Phillies for a 19-4 victory. After the victory, Manager Clint Hurdle announced that Jeff Locke will take the team's fourth spot in the Opening Day rotation while Vance Worley will begin the season in the bullpen for long-relief. Locke went 7-6 for the Pirates in 2014 with a 3.91 ERA in 21 starts with 89 strikeouts and 40 walks in 131 1/3 innings. After struggling through the ... Read More
