Today was going to be the day. It was going to be the day the Pittsburgh Steelers finally beat the New England Patriots in the AFC Championship Game to get a spot in the Super Bowl. It was going to be the day Ben Roethlisberger finally proved himself against Tom Brady and Bill Belichick. It was going to be the day because the Steelers finally had Roethlisberger, Antonio Brown and Le’Veon Bell healthy for the playoffs. Penguins dominate third period against Bruins to win fourth straight
Not too long ago the Pittsburgh Penguins (30-11-5) were on a three-game skid. With its 5-1 win Sunday against the Boston Bruins (23-21-6), Pittsburgh has found itself on a four-game win streak. This fourth win in a row has helped separate the Penguins from the New York Rangers for third place in the division, and Pittsburgh now only trails the Columbus Blue by a single point for second place (the Washington Capitals are currently in first). The 5-1 victory Sunday night featured both an ... Read More

5 keys to Pittsburgh beating New England in AFC Championship Game
For the first time since the 2004 season, the Pittsburgh Steelers and the New England Patriots will face off in the AFC Championship Game with kickoff set for 6:40 p.m. EST at Gillette Stadium in Foxboro, Mass. The Patriots have certainly had the Steelers' number in the Tom Brady-Bill Belichick era (New England holds a a 9-2 record in meetings with Brady under center), but the Steelers — on a nine-game winning streak — come in as the hottest team in the NFL. There are plenty of things that ... Read More
Penguins snap three-game road losing streak, Murray bounces back
After a game where Matt Murray allowed a staggering seven goals, the Pittsburgh Penguins' young goalie allowed only one against the Montreal Canadiens (27-13-6) in Pittsburgh's 4-1 win Wednesday night. With the defense allowing only 20 shots on net, Murray’s job was considerably easier than in his previous game against the Washington Capitals. The game began with both teams' offenses off to a good start, but Pittsburgh (28-11-5) got on the board firsts thanks to a wide-open Ian Cole flying ... Read More
Who from this year’s class belongs in the Hall of Fame?
Tonight, the 2017 Hall of Fame class will be announced. With a lot of big names — and some very controversial ones (Barry Bonds, Roger Clemens, Curt Schilling, etc.), it should be a fun night. Here's who three of our PSN staffers think deserves a spot in the Cooperstown. Shannon Carroll: Barry Bonds, outfielder, Pittsburgh Pirates/San Francisco Giants Put down the pitchforks, please! Now, despite living in Pittsburgh, I'm from San Francisco, so we have a very different opinion of Bonds (he ... Read More
NC State narrowly defeats Pitt men’s basketball, 79-74
From the first touch on tip-off to the final buzzer, it was a close game on Tuesday night between the Pitt Panthers and the North Carolina State Wolfpack. However, the Wolfpack managed to earn the win at their home arena, 79-74. At the end of the first half, the Wolfpack led by one point, 35-34. And NC State managed to stretch that lead all the way until the end. After a dismal game against the University of Miami four days ago, against the Wolfpack, Pitt senior forward Michael Young ... Kevin Kerr, Corey Hertzog talk Riverhounds preseason, new players
Believe it or not, this isn’t the first season that Pittsburgh Riverhounds midfielder Kevin Kerr has gone through a roster revamp. This year, the Riverhounds have truly cleaned the house, bringing back only nine players, meaning 14 players are brand new. It's a similar case to last season, when only eight players returned. This season, plenty of the new players are just coming out of college. The advice given to these new players from veterans Kerr and forward Corey ... Read More
Three up, three down: Steelers vs. Chiefs
It won't go into the NFL Film vaults as an instant classic, but the Pittsburgh Steelers did just enough to escape with a 18-16 victory over the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday night. Now, Pittsburgh will finally get their chance at playoff redemption against the New England Patriots when the two teams meet this coming Sunday in the AFC Championship Game. The victory gives the Steelers a shot to end the Patriots' Super Bowl quest on their home field — just like New England did in Pittsburgh in ... Read More
Grades: Pittsburgh Steelers vs. Kansas City Chiefs
In the most untraditional fashion, the Pittsburgh Steelers are heading to the 2017 AFC Championship Game against the New England Patriots. That might not sound non-traditional. The Steelers are six-time Super Bowl champions, so they've obviously seen their share of AFC Championship games. However, what was non-tradiational was the way Pittsburgh earned its win in the AFC Divisional Round against the Kansas City Chiefs. Give Chris Boswell the hero’s cape. He scored every point for the ... Read More
